Fusion reactors require Deuterium as a fuel source, which is supplied via pipe. Fusion reactors deliver power equivalent to 5 normal reactors but require about half the space.

Fusion reactors require power to activate, and must fully activate before they begin providing power. The reactor takes 40 seconds to activate, during which its power consumption will increase up to 500 MW. In total it will draw 10,050 MW during activation. Once activated, the reactor will stop requiring power and begin providing it.

Currently (Alpha 14), the powergrid will show the fusion reactor contributing to power supply during activation, but this is misleading as the reactor's power is not actually supplied until activation completes.

Save files for the game are stored in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Introversion\LastStarship\saves
on Windows,
~/Library/Application\ Support/LastStarship/saves
on Mac, and
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1857080/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Introversion/LastStarship/saves
on Linux (using Proton). They are stored in a plaintext format and end in a
.space
extension.
Common modifications
Enable mutli-system simulation
Multi-system simulation, introduced unofficially in Alpha 7, allows you to have ships in different systems at the same time. It was officially added to Industry mode in Alpha 8, but can be enabled in Free Roam and Survival modes by adding the line
MultiSystemSimulation true
to the top of the save file (before the HUD section).
Add items to the Trade screen
If you are stuck in a system with no Trade screen or the Trade screen is missing an item you need:
# Save and close the game.
# In the directory listed above, find the
.space
file corresponding to the saved game and open it in a text editor.
# Search for a line containing
TradePossible
. Set that to true.
#: Note: There may be multiple Trade sections in the system archive save file. Make sure to use the base section that is not indented.
# In the
TheirStock
section below, update or add the desired line using the item code from the table below. Spacing is important, so make sure to match it. The number can be adjusted to the preferred amount.
# Save the changes, run the game, and load the save.
Add items to a shuttle
Some items, like hull breaches, are technically just like any other items, but they cannot be purchased from the Trade screen, even with the trick above. In this case, it's necessary to modify a shuttle's inventory as it delivers cargo.
# Purchase something or initiate a mission delivery.
# As soon as the shuttle appears, save and close the game.
# In the directory listed above, find the
.space
file corresponding to the saved game and open it in a text editor.
# Find the section for your ship. It should be the first section beginning with
BEGIN Layer
. Find the line
BEGIN Deliveries
inside that section.
# In the the
Trade
section below, update or add the desired line using the item code from the table below. Spacing is important, so make sure to match it. The number can be adjusted to the preferred amount.
Refill a fuel tank
If your ship runs out of fuel, but you have a fuel tank installed:
# Save and close the game.
# In the directory listed above, find the
.space
file corresponding to the saved game and open it in a text editor.
# Search for a line containing
Resource Fuel
. Spacing is important.
# Ensure that the line belongs to a tank and that the tank belongs to the correct ship. Player-owned ships are listed as
FriendlyShip
type.
# Update or add the corresponding
Quantity
line to add fuel to the tank.
# Save the changes, run the game, and load the save.

AI Strategy
You can assign an "AI-strategy" to either ship, which determine how they fight:

StrategyVeryCloseOrbit: Broadside orbits within Gatling gun range.

CloseRangeAggressive: Broadside orbits in cannon range just outside of gatling gun range.

MediumRangeOrbit: Broadside orbits within far end of cannon range.

LongRangeSniper: Broadside orbits at railgun range well outside of cannon range.

FastMovingJet: Forward facing strafing Runs, fly's straight at opponent then circles around to do it again.

Instructions
* In TLS, create your own ship and export it, or subscribe to a ship on steam workshop. Or alternatively, download a ship from a trusted website.
TLS stores ships in the ship-folder: "C:\Users\<your-windows-username>\AppData\Local\Introversion\LastStarship\ships"
* Each ship has a ship-file named "<ship-name>.ship", and an image file named "<ship-name>.png".
* Launch TLS, and select Creative Mode -> Create New Ship
* Go back to the main menu (by pressing the escape key) and select "Import Hostile", then select a ship to import. Note the name of the imported ship, which will appear in red at the top right of the screen. We'll refer to this as "ship-1".
* Repeat this process to import a second ship, "ship-2".
* Go back to menu and select: Save Game -> Create New Save, then give it a helpful name (e.g. ship-1 vs ship-2).
* Go back to menu and select: "Abandon Game".
* Open the save-game folder (not the ship-folder):
"C:\Users\<your-windows-username>\AppData\Local\Introversion\LastStarship\saves"
* Open the save-game file (.space file) you just created, using your text editor.
* Text search for "NEWSHIP", it should look like this... then delete this whole section including the BEGIN and END.
A Hydroponic Garden grows food from compost and seeds.

A garden has six grow spots. Each spot:
* Initially requires 10 compost and 4 water to prepare
* After a seed is planted, will use 1 water every 19 seconds (roughly)
* Requires 1 MW while plant is growing
* Produces 15 food and 1-2 seeds after about 425 seconds, using 22.5 water total
** Research can improve crop yield by 50%, raising this to 22.5 food (thus requiring 1 water per food)
* Requires 5 compost and 3 water to re-prepare
* Per hour this comes to about 7 compost, 21 food and 32 water (with food rising to 32 after research)

Total garden power usage is 1 MW (baseload) + 1 MW per plant.

A ship's crew and passengers require:
* Oxygen
** Crew can survive in spacesuits, so long as they are refilled with oxygen periodically, but civilians can't wear spacesuits and require an atmosphere.
* CO2 removal (if an atmosphere exists).
* Food
* Water
* Sewage removal is not yet required (as of Alpha 14), but presumably will be at some point.

Resource Management
Buy/Sell
Oxygen, food, and water can all be purchased. CO2 and sewage can be bottled with a loader and sold.

Harvest
All resources can be collected from post-combat debris.

Ice can be harvested from comets with mining lasers and then processed into water. Oxygen can be produced from water with an oxygen maker, though this risks using up the water supply if not monitored.

Recycle
With the right equipment, CO2 and sewage can be recycled back into oxygen, food, and water. Research can increase the quantity of resources recovered from this process.

Example recycling systems:
*CO2 Scrubber ⇒
CO2
⇒ Air Reprocessor ⇒
Oxygen

*Sewage Pipe ⇒
Sewage
⇒ Waste Treatment Machine ⇒
Waste Water
and
Compost

**
Waste Water
⇒ Water Purifier ⇒
Water

**
Compost
and
Water
and
Seeds
⇒ Hydroponic Garden ⇒
Food
and
Seeds

System Losses
In one hour a crew member will consume 3 food and 20 water, and produce 22 sewage. With all research completed:
*This sewage will convert to 22 water and 2.75 compost.
*More than 3 food can be produced from this compost, but producing only the needed 3 food will consume 3 water.
In total 23 water is consumed while only 22 is returned, so supplemental water will be necessary.
Weapons chamber one round, which is removed from the ammo stack. The chambered round is not reported on the Tactical view's total ammo count, but is shown on the individual weapon's ammo count. A weapon can be reloaded when the ammo stack is exhausted, which happens before the weapon is fully empty due to the chambered round.
