Sector Scans are the first step in discovering new locations. The process requires dedicated hyperspace sensor equipment and some time to complete. Once the scan finishes, additional star systems or POIs become visible around the player's current location on the [[Sector Map]].

Detailed information about the discovered systems is obtained through a '''Local Survey'''. This process can be triggered on the sector map by clicking the POI and is subsequently performed automatically as long as the player has a powered [[~~Supercomputer~~]] onboard and remains in the same sector where the system was discovered. No scientists or crew assignments are required. After the local survey, the POI can be jumped to via FTL just like any other star system.
