Cannon Shells

Cannons are mid-range explosive weapons with a medium firing arc. They are loaded with one stack of Cannon Shells at a time.

Cannon shots can be deflected by a targeted ship equipped with a Deflector.

They must be placed in the Hull. The object itself is of size 3 x 2, need an unobstructed area in front of 3 x 6 and internal space of 3 x 1 and a space for the crew to operate it (the middle tile behind the object), giving an overall space of 3 x 9 + 1

Cannons have a range of 500m. They fire at a rate of 1 shell every ~2.25 seconds. Cannon shells travel towards their target at a speed of ~200m/s. They will randomly impact on an enemy hull block or equipment in their path towards their target.

When a shell impacts on a block or equipment, an 11x11 square area is drawn (impacted block + 5 blocks on each side) and hull blocks and equipment within this area are randomly damaged. The block or equipment that the shell impacted on is always damaged. Each hull piece hit deals 1 hull damage if it is undamaged, 2 hull damage if it has been previously damaged and 0 hull damage if the block has been destroyed (applies to enemy hulls only). Armour will prevent damage to a hit block, but is destroyed when doing so.

Because cannons hit a random area, the hull damage dealt varies and depends on the number of hull blocks hit. Typically a cannon shell hitting a ship deals between 25 to 50 damage to undamaged hull, and between 50 to 100 to previously damaged hull. The approximate DPS of a cannon is between 20 to 30 while firing.

Cannons can fire 5 times before needing to be reloaded with a stack of Cannon Shells. Reloads are lengthy, but can be shortened by using a Robot Arm to load the ammo and a Weapon Control Console to remove the need for a crew member to operate the cannon.

Cannons do not consume any extra power while firing, but do have higher power consumption while the ship is at Battle Stations.

Because cannons hit a large area, they are extremely effective at stripping off Armour from ships.

Cannons cost $30,000 to buy through Trade. Each stack of 5 shells costs $500.

History[edit | edit source]

  • Alpha 3: Must be occupied by a crew member to function. Inactive cannons retract into the ship.
  • Alpha 12: Fixed issue with not firing when set to AUTO, even though the enemy is within field of fire.
  • Alpha 13: Deflector added.
  • Alpha 14: Fixed exterior equipment taking no damage from cannon.
